The first logistics project between the Suez Canal and a Norwegian company to serve the field




The Suez Canal Authority is arranging for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Norwegian multinational company for the establishment of the first logistics project in the Hussein Basin area to serve the natural gas production project in the Dhahr field.

According to information from a source in the channel, the past few years have witnessed a number of visits by the company's delegations to the Suez Canal Authority to agree with its chairman, Mihab Mmeish, on the terms of the project and the partnership's foundations. He pointed out that the agreement will be the first of its kind with foreign companies in the field of services Logistics.

It is noteworthy that the field emerged from the most important projects for the development of natural gas fields under implementation, the largest gas discovery in the Mediterranean, and the largest on the global level.

Production is expected to begin in December 2017 with an average of one billion cubic feet per day, gradually increasing to 2.7 billion in 2019. The oil agreement for the exploration was signed in January 2014 after the Italian ENE won the region in the international bidding offered by Natural Gas Holding Company - Aegas.

The source expected that the partnership between the Suez Canal and the Norwegian company will establish a new company in accordance with the powers and controls granted by the law establishing the Authority in establishing companies to serve its economic activities, like the companies of the Suez Canal for aquaculture and the Suez Canal for investment and the seven companies of the Authority.

The source pointed out that this trend strengthens the economic entity of the Authority and maximizes the revenues, which have been dependent for years on the fees of the transit of ships to the navigational course of the channel.


He added that «Hussein Basin» one of the main link of the Suez Canal Authority east of the canal, and has been neglected for several years, pointing out that the reuse of the basin is the beginning of the start to develop the port of West Port Said.

He pointed out that the company's dredges finished 70% of the trenching work to a depth of 16 meters, so that the container berth in the western port can accommodate the vessels carrying 18,000 containers and 350 meters long.

He said that the Authority is putting services activity at the forefront of its concerns after the discovery of gas and oil witnessed by Egypt recently, especially the field of back, which called for strengthening the fleet of the vessel "Ahmed Fadel", which entered service in mid-June, the latest vessels of petroleum services in the field of oil extraction And maintenance works for excavators.

The ship is the largest multipurpose unit in the Middle East and one of the largest service vessels of oil companies and platforms, operating in the DP2 system, which ensures the installation of the unit at a specific point in the sea without the need to throw a hitch, and the capacity of 9800 kilowatts.
The vessel is 90 meters long and 18.8 meters wide and has a total capacity of 4744 tons and is equipped with a 75-ton main poonch. It works with AHC, allowing up to 40 tons of weight and stabilizing at a specific point below sea level of 2000 meters.
