Peace Boat, a Japanese nonprofit organization that runs educational cruises, is planning a project to build the largest eco-friendly cruise ship.
The "Echoship" boat project has reached its final planning stages, with the construction of a $ 500 million Finnish company, Arctech, financed by so-called "influential investors", rich families and individuals who are investing in projects that will improve the world and make profits at the same time. .
Cruise ships can burn hundreds of tons of heavy fuel oil per day and produce emissions equivalent to one million cars, according to the German environmental group NABU.
Echoship will use a combination of solar panels, wind power and liquid natural gas to produce 40 percent less carbon emissions than traditional cruise ships.
It plans to launch the boat on its first journey in 2020, becoming a model for the entire sector, with the intention to build five of these boats by 2030.
The trip will cost between $ 15,000 and $ 18,000, including travel and meals, as well as recreational activities, including health programs, lectures and educational workshops on topics such as peace, politics, climate change and human rights.
